Vermiculite Fire Spray forms part of a building's structural fire strategy, compartmentalising fire and smoke so that it cannot spread freely between floors, rooms or protected escape routes, which is essential for safe evacuation in any occupancy type.
An alarm only tells people a fire has started — it does not stop fire and smoke from spreading. Vermiculite Fire Spray physically contains that spread within a compartment, which is what protects escape routes and gives occupants time to get out safely.
It needs periodic inspection to confirm seals, doors and rated barriers have not been compromised by later renovation work, cable penetrations or wear, since even small breaches can reduce its fire rating significantly.
Ratings are usually specified in terms of fire resistance duration (for example 60, 90 or 120 minutes) based on the occupancy risk assessment and the applicable building code for the project.
