FM-200 Fire Suppression Systems combines fast detection with an automatic discharge mechanism that starves, cools or chemically interrupts the fire before it develops, minimising damage to equipment, downtime and the risk to people working nearby.
Detection-to-discharge time is typically a matter of seconds, since the objective is to suppress the fire while it is still small — before it has a chance to spread to nearby equipment or structure.
Depending on the agent used, some systems require a short pre-discharge alarm so people can evacuate the immediate zone, while others are designed to be safe for occupied spaces. This is confirmed during design based on the specific agent and application.
Suppression systems need periodic inspection of detection heads, control panels, piping, nozzles and agent cylinders, along with functional testing, to keep the system compliant and ready to respond.
